Bachelor of Science(B.Sc) - Biochemistry
Biochemistry is the study of the chemical processes in living organisms. It deals with the structure and function of cellular components such as proteins, carbohydrates, lipids, nucleic acids and other biomolecules.
The study of biochemistry deals with the chemical combinations and reactions which take place in biological processes such as growth, metabolism, reproduction, heredity etc., as well as the effect of the environment on living organisms.
Studying Structures and functions of enzymes, proteins, carbohydrates, fats, process of metabolism and the molecular basis of the action of genes also form a part of biochemistry. Advances made in biochemistry have made significant contributions towards elucidation and understanding of the DNA Structure.
As such its practical applications are virtually boundless. Two of the biggest fields of work that require biochemistry knowledge are pharmaceuticals, and genetics.
To become a Biochemist, one should aim for a postgraduate degree and further enroll for doctoral degree program. Doctoral degree is a must for a good career, especially in the field of research.
After completion of B.Sc- Microbiology one can pursue higher studies (M.S / M.Sc / Ph.D) in Biochemistry.
